Grazing Cover Crops

November 9 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Join us for coffee and donuts, a short morning session and a field visit on the multiple benefits of cover crops. Rigney Farms started utilizing cover crops to improve soil health and to reduce the amount of hay needed for this small cow-calf operation. Best economic and biological results from cover crops happen when grazing is integrated into the system. Topics include:

  • Soil Health Basics: How important is continuous no-till and cover cropping for soil health? (Candy Thomas, NRCS Soil Health Specialist)
  • Grazing Cover Crops: Best Mixes and Avoiding Health Hazards (Jaymelynn Farney, KSU Extension)
  • Field Grazing Logistics: Water and Fencing (Herschel George, KSU Extension)
